Mont Fuji & autres ponts is an exhibition of French contemporary artist Alain Bublex’s photo-montages, in which the silhouette of Mount Fuji creeps into focus in the background of the most unlikely landscapes. Bublex’s grey-ish urban or industrial compositions are not unlike magic eye posters – you look at what’s going on in the foreground, your eyes relax, and from the depths of the composition something else appears. The iconic shape of Mount Fuji is easy to recognize and here it’s introduction into banal scenes lends an evocative force to the deserted landscapes. Bublex’s work lies somewhere between real and imaginary, the subtle flitting between the two is humorous and often disorientating. (Until 20 Nov)
