Slow and Steady Wins the Race Pop-Up Shop

The best gifts are thoughtful, heartfelt and useful. Which is why you should give your family Xanax this Christmas. We know, of course, that it’s illegal to distribute without a prescription etc, etc but it’s the thought that counts!  Terrence Koh will back me up on this: he’s sent a bit of holiday cheer to Paris, in the form of the famous mood candy, which you’ll find in the smallest of six nesting boxes, the first five of which spell out X-A-N-A-X. It’s all part of a pop-up holiday gift shop inside the Brachfeld Gallery and organized by Mary Ping (of the concept-driven US fashion label Slow and Steady Wins the Race) which brings together a dozen or so artists around a nesting box theme. Our favourite is the mirror-and-op-art piece by Tauba Auerbach, a 29 year-old American art star who’s just starting to gather attention this side of the Atlantic. In addition to the boxes – which are all very funny, beautiful, or personal – Ms. Ping has sent over a steamer-trunk’s worth of her deconstructionist label’s most provocative hits (the giant pearls should sell fast in Paris) and Rob Carmichael, of Catsup Plate records, has assembled a compilation disk (Bombe Zenith & Nina Mehta, Cass McCombs, Celebration, Discovery, Donald Beaman, High Places, Soft Circle,  The Double , The Walkmen, Wheaton Plaza) the proceeds of which will go to the One Laptop per Child Foundation.
On until Christmas Eve.
Tue-Sat, 2-6pm.
