Vanessa Bruno for Paris&Création

The rivalry between the three great Parisian department stores has turned into a kind of culture war with Le Bon Marché over on the arty Left Bank bank battling it out against the twin towers of Right Bank luxury, Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. Galeries Lafayette, with the second edition of Paris & Création at their great little exhibition space Galerie des Galeries, ups the ante a bit, inviting parisienne par excellence, the emblematic local fashion designer Vanessa Bruno to assemble and expose examples of the artistic influences that make up her universe, in Bruno’s words ‘a poetic journey through my plastic, domestic and sensorial world’. Working with the architect David Exbrayat, Bruno presents photography, video, fabric and objects by artists she’s collaborated with over the years, including Mark Borthwick or Lou Doillon. And from 12 July, Paris’s foremost cultural institutions, including the Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, MAM, Parc de la Villette… invest the department store windows.
Until 14 Aug.
La Galerie des Galeries, 1er étage, Galeries Lafayette, 40 bd Haussmann, 9th. Tue-Sat, 9.30am-7.30pm (9pm, Thu).
