TECHNO PARADE
Despite having been moved forward a week on account of a certain pontiff's visit, the 10th annual Paris Techno Parade is still set to transform the streets of the capital into one massive party. Anyone who's anyone on the techno scene will want to be involved in what has become a focal event on the world's electro calendar. This year's theme, like so many festivals around the city, has chosen Europe as its focus and its slogan ‘Rock To The Beat' is provided by Detroit pioneers Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. What's more, continuing in the vein of last year's green theme, the birthday celebrations will strive to promote environmental awareness, even sorting through the debris left on the parade route. TM
Initialement prévue samedi 13 septembre, la parade est décalée d'une semaine pour cause de venue papale. En effet, sa Sainteté le pape Benoît XVI prévoit un rodéo en "papa mobile" dans les rues de Paris. Craignant une concurrence farouche, la Techno Parade s'incline devant tant d'énergie de la part de l'envoyé de Saint Pierre à Paname. La manifestation célèbrera ses 10 ans de fête, de revendications et de son dans les rues de la capitale. Après une édition 2007 placée sous le signe de l'environnement, ce nouveau cru aura l'Europe pour thème. Son slogan s'inspire d'un titre de 1998 de Kevin Saunderson & Reese Santonio : Rock To The Beat. Préparez votre char, affûtez vos tenues multi colores pour la parade la plus sonore de l'Héxagone.
FETE DE LA HUMANITÉ 2008
Created back in 1930 by the French Communist Party, the Fete de la Humanité is one of the oldest ongoing annual events in the city, and it's still going strong. In a unique spirit of solidarity and social progress, the three-day festival continues to host an abundance of talent for an incredibly low price. A mixture of established rock icons and unknown talent run side by side with various stalls, debating platforms and lively forums where politics and the issues of the moment can be chewed over in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This year will see the Babyshambles, Alain Bashung, Thomas Dutronc and voice of Supertramp Roger Hodgson hitting the stage to name but a few. TM
La Fête de l'Humanité est un lieu de solidarité et de fraternité dans un monde de plus en plus violent, où prime trop souvent la loi de l'argent et du chacun pour soi. ROCK EN SEINE 2008
As usual, this year's Rock en Seine Festival promises to round off the summer with a colossal bang. Bringing you the best cult international groups, as well as sparkling new talent, the festival has become a Mecca for the cosmopolitan music revellers of Paris, who ritually make an exodus to the lush grass of Saint Cloud. This year's festival is divided in two phases, with a one-off concert on Wed 20 Aug from the legendary Rage Against the Machine (joined by Mix Master Mike, Blood Red Shoes and Losprophets) and the weekend of 28-29 Aug seeing REM, Kaiser Chiefs, Amy Winehouse, The Streets and The Do take the stage. In the beautiful location of Parc Saint Cloud, this relatively small and friendly festival (25-30,000 visitors per day) is nothing short of pure magic. TM
C'est le festival qui nous donnerait presque envie que les vacances se terminent! Un peu comme le feu d'artifice qui viendrait clore la saison. Bref, le rendez-vous incontournable de la rentrée, pour prolonger les beaux jours. Et l'occasion de voir des artistes qui choisissent parfois de jouer là et pas ailleurs : les concerts de Rage Against The Machine (20), Kaiser Chiefs (28), Amy Winehouse et The Streets (29) seront cet été leur seule date en France. En lançant Rock en Seine, en pleine canicule de 2003, François Missonnier (voir l'interview ci-dessous), amoureux de rock, pop et autres sons roots, ne s'imaginait pas que le résultat serait si explosif! Une réussite qui doit beaucoup à la beauté des lieux (dans des jardins aménagés par le célèbre Le Nôtre) et à une programmation exceptionnelle. Pour sa 6e édition, la magie promet toujours d'être au rendez-vous!
