MAISON FABRE
Founded in 1924, Maison Fabre has become synonymous with the finest, fun-nest handwear, and is sold all over the globe (well, in the nice, rich bits anyway). Only now though, some 84 years after its creation, has it opened its first stand-alone boutique under the sandy stone arches of the Galerie de Valois at the Palais Royal. Hands will be made very happy here: young ones (ditch stretchy magic-gloves and spoil your child with mini Maison Fabre), old ones (classic driving gloves have not been forgotten) and, of course, cold ones (the fur gloves are dazzling, if a tad impractical). ‘Donner envie de découvrir ma collection en un même lieu était un rêve...' déclarait Olivier Fabre il y a quelques saisons. Aujourd'hui le voici enfin réalisé. Ce premier écrin parisien se niche dans les Jardins du Palais Royal. Ici, se déclinent dans un vaste jeu de matières et de couleurs les superbes gammes qui font l'orgueil de la Maison Fabre. Gants longs, faits de cuirs et de fourrures rares et précieuses, gants d'été aériens et colorés, gants masculins racés... prennent la pose dans 20m2 de luxe installé au milieu de la galerie.
ROBERT NORMAND
Add Robert Normand to the hot list of designers entering the retail scene at the Palais Royale. It's the first freestanding shop from the designer with collaborations with Pucci and Lanvin under his belt, and known for his graphic work with pattern. The small boutique space boasts two levels with curving black-and-white striped walls and mirrors that hint at op art, while allowing the floral dresses from the current collection to steal the show. La première boutique du créateur Robert Normand vient d'ouvrir au Palais-Royal. Déjà au cœur des collections de Normand, le travail graphique trouve ici une dimension nouvelle, ludique et lumineuse. Les murs ondulent, partout recouverts d'un rideau immobile, aux plis d'une étrange régularité. Au plafond, un astre rayonne au centre d'un plafond en volume, comme un éventail circulaire déployé. Au sol, une épaisse moquette ocre, aux murs, de grands miroirs... Un escalier réchappé du XIXème siècle mène au salon d'essayage du premier étage où une psyché, un profond canapé accueilleront les clientes de ce précieux écrin. Ces allusions stylistiques emboîtées comme des poupées russes font écho au travail cultivé et poétique de Robert Normand.
LACROIX CURATES
This is the year of Christian Lacroix. Everywhere we turn the theatrical prodigy is wowing us with his creations — from the 20th anniversary of his own house and a spectacular runway show, to booming capsule collections for La Redoute. Now, the fashion and textile museum has given the designer free reign to dig through their archives and select the couture pieces he finds most inspiring: some 400 gowns from the 18th century to the present day tell his private history of fashion. The pieces are organised into themes which highlight technical and graphic features, beginning with blacks and whites and moving to the kaleidoscope of colour and florals we associate with the vibrant couturier. C’est l’année Christian Lacroix. Le couturier prodige et théâtral est partout, avec ses séduisantes créations – il fête les vingt ans de sa maison, a proposé un défilé spectaculaire, et a créé une mini-collection pour La Redoute. Dernier événement en date, le Musée de la Mode et du Textile lui a donné carte blanche pour explorer leur archives et sélectionner les vêtements couture qui l’inspirent le plus : ainsi plus de 400 pièces, du 18ème siècle à nos jours, racontent l’histoire de la mode de son point de vue. L’organisation thématique met en relief les caractéristiques techniques et graphiques ; on part des noirs et des blancs pour aller vers le kaléidoscope de couleurs et d’imprimés fleuris qu’on associe avec ce vibrant créateur.
