DOMINIQUE PERRAULT
Showcasing 200 built and unbuilt works of one the world's most influential architects, the Pompidou Centre celebrates the creations of Dominique Perrault. As the latest in a series of tributes to great architects such as Christian de Portzamparc (1996),Jean Nouvel (2001) and Thom Mayne (2006), this exhibition further solidifies the centre's commitment to the understanding of contemporary architecture. Perrault, most famous perhaps for his contribution to the east Parisian skylinewith his controversial Bibliothéque National de France (1989-1995), has been hailed as the initiator of a new architectural perspective. The exhibition devotes over 1,000 square metres of gallery space to exploring his international designs through images, drawings and scale models, allowing the viewer to consider the length breadth of his groundbreaking delineations of architectural space. Ainsi, après avoir rendu hommage à Christian dePortzamparc (1996), Renzo Piano (2000), Jean Nouvel (2001), Thom Mayne (2006)et Richard Rogers (2007), le Centre Pompidou poursuit son engagement pour fairecomprendre et connaître l'architecture de notre temps en exposant les grandsarchitectes internationaux contemporains. 200 projets étudiés ou réalisés àtravers le monde (vélodrome de Berlin, théâtre Mariinsky II à Saint-Pétersbourg,université EWHA à Séoul, etc.) constituent une oeuvre qui ne se limite pas à unbâtiment, aussi emblématique soit-il, mais invente de nouveaux territories d'expression,s'inscrit dans une recherche permanente, franchit les frontières depuis l'Espagnejusqu'à la Russie, depuis l'Autriche jusqu'en Corée, depuis l'Italie jusqu'aux États-Unis.
