‘LIFE BEYOND MARS : BOWIE COVERED' COMPILATION
When it comes to citing influences, David Bowie is often found at the top of any musician's list. The effect Bowie has on generations of artists is undeniable, and - as Rapster Records new cover album testifies - alive and well in modern music. Life on Mars samples widely from the field of Bowie-inspired musicians to offer an idiosyncratic collection of covers that never strays too far from Bowie's universe. Kelly Polar adds an elegant touch of disco to ‘Magic Dance', Carl Craig surprises then convinces with his electro-pop reprise of ‘Looking for Water', and The Emperor Machine deploys their robotic funk to good effect on ‘Repetition'. Without even mentioning Au Revoir Simone, Matthew Dear, Susumu Yokota, or Joakim, there is no talent wanting in this colorful hommage to grand master Bowie. BJ
Bowie est probablement l'un des artistes les plus cité quand on demande aux musiciens actuels la source de leurs inspirations. L'influence artistique du grand David auprès des jeunes générations n'est vraiment plus un secret. La ribambelle d'artiste inspiré présent sur cette compilation de reprise, venant d'horizons très différents, atteste de cet état de fait. Chacun revisite des titres plus ou moins connus avec sa touche artistique personnelle, tout en respectant l'univers original de David Bowie.
