PONI HOAX: ‘IMAGES OF SIGRID’
Poni Hoax is far from being a hoax. Quite the contrary: this very serious Parisian group, whose motto is to not take the easy way out yet to seduce at a maximum, fascinates and destabilizes. Having already gained the popular vote on the basis of their first eponymous album, the five musicians cultivate the art of contrast by combining harsh rock and incandescent disco. They revive this formula with a new album that's devilishly smokin and super accomplished. Each song clamors with intense urgency that virtually impales your soul. At the cusp of music on the margin but profoundly universal, the Tigersushi label and its show horse Poni Hoax could, together, outdo any circle of insiders. All thanks to a disc situated at the avant garde of - in the literal sense of the term - popular music.
Poni Hoax est loin d'être un canular. Bien au contraire, ce très sérieux groupe parisien dont la marque de fabrique est de ne pas tomber dans la facilité tout en voulant séduire un maximum, fascine et déstabilise. Déjà plébiscités lors d'un premier album éponyme, Les cinq musiciens de Poni Hoax cultivent l'art du contraste en alliant âpreté rock et incandescence disco. Ils récidivent avec Images of Sigrid, un nouvel album diablement embrasé et hyper abouti. Chaque titre s'érige comme une intense clameur dont l'urgence nous transperce l'âme. Toujours à l'affut de musiques en marge mais profondément universelles, le très intelligent label Tigersushi et son étalon Poni Hoax, pourraient ensemble dépasser le cercle des initiés grâce à un disque situé à l'avant garde de la pop (au sens populaire du terme).
