Narrated by George Clooney, this documentary presents the political intricacies of the first genocide of the new century. Peabody Award-winning director Paul Freedman (Rwanda - Do Scars Ever Fade?) establishes comparisons between Rwanda and Darfur, but most of all, emphasises the impotence of the international community confronted by the escalating violence. Hope is in everybody's mind but means something different for each group. For the women of Darfur, it means getting killed rather than raped. For the men, it's finding a way to escape the horror of the refugee camps. For the humanitarians and politicians: trying not to mess up next time, in order to better live up to the slogan ‘never again'. Well articulated, without exploiting overly shocking images, this documentary makes you think and shows you a different perspective on reactions to a contemporary genocide. OP
