Book your tickets now for the Nuit SFR Live Concerts at the Grand Palais. The Nuit SFR is a 12-hour electro marathon for 6000 happy fans all within the astounding dimensions of the Grand Palais. For this 3rd edition, headlining acts are Modeselektor (Monkeytown Records) from Berlin and London’s Crystal Fighters (Different), plus there’s DJ sets from local acts Agoria (Infiné), Carte Blanche (Ed Banger) and Cassius (Ed Banger). Monumenta 2011 by Anish Kapoor

Monumenta 2011 opened last night, presenting Anish Kapoor’s exceptional outsized sculpture ‘Leviathan’ within the Grand Palais. The artist describes the work he created for Monumenta as “a single object, a single form, a single colour.” The visitor can not only contemplate the PVC monochrome monolith from the outside, but actually walk inside it, for a fairly suffocating immersive experience in what feels like a living body. Anish Kapoor is also currently on show at the Galerie Kamel Mennour (Until 23 July) for two parallel exhibitions ‘Almost Nothing’ in the gallery, as well as an installation ‘Outdoor’ untiil 11 June at the Chapelle des Petits Augustins (14 rue des Beaux Arts, 6th).

Anish Kapoor next artist at MONUMENTA

Get ready for the next edition of this annual art challenge, opening mid-May. After local act Christian Boltanski, Bombay born London artist Anish Kapoor is the next artist commissioned to respond to the monumental proportions of the Grand Palais’ enormous nave. He’s planning to “drench us in colour”. Listen to Kapoor talk about the project here. No stranger to this scale, Kapoor did a project for the Tate Modern’s Unilever Series back in 2003 (pictured here), but he hasn’t shown in Paris in any significant way for 30 years.

Bvlgari retrospective at the Grand Palais

The Italian luxury maison presents an exhibition tracing the 125 year history of its fine jewellery creation. ’125 ans de magnificence italienne’ was presented in Rome last year, and opens tomorrow in Paris with 500 glittering baubles, presented chronologically, and including Elizabeth Taylor’s incredible collection. Bvlgari was the first jeweller in the world to work with coloured precious stones. More information here.

Christian Boltanski, Monumenta

A powerful installation ‘Personnes’ (People) from Christian Boltanski at the Grand Palais for the annual Monumenta program. At the entry to the exhibition stands a sad and anonymous wall of rusting lockers; once past these and into the Grand Palais’ huge, chilly space you are confronted with frighteningly bureaucratic arrangements, in perfectly aligned squares, of abandoned clothes. Small speakers attached to poles pump out the sound of human heartbeats (collected by Boltanski for his project ‘Les Archives du Coeur’). Then there’s an enormous mound of clothes over which a huge robot arm decends to grab a pile, rises up high, then releases them, spewing them back down to the top of the pile. You can’t help feeling like you’ve been transported back in time, to the Drancy camp in 1942, say. It feels good to get the hell out and back on to the Champs Elysées!

The international skateboarding star Tony Hawk, accompanied by some of the world’s best ramp-riders (Andy MacDonald, Jean Postec, Kevin Staab, Jesse Fritsch, Sergie Ventura, Sandro Dias), are heading for Paris this Sat 21 Nov to take on the biggest ramp in Europe, built inside the Grand Palais. Dead by Sunrise, Chester Bennington’s new group (Linkin Park’s front man), will perform live, followed by a DJ set from Mix Master Mike! From Fri 20, an immense street course, in proportion to the dizzying dimensions of the Grand Palais, will be made available to skateboarders, whether amateur or pro, for two whole days. Prince at the Grand Palais

Prince performed two concerts last night Sunday – at 5pm, in daylight, and at 10pm after sunset – in the Grand Palais, the magnificent glass-roofed exhibition hall built for the Exposition Universelle of 1900. It’s the first time he’s performed in Paris since 2002. Prince decided to perform the concert on Tuesday, after attending Chanel’s show for Fashion Week (with Lily Allen performing live), and on Wednesday the concerts were confirmed. The two times 5,500 tickets sold out in just 77 minutes on Friday morning.
