The Whigs are famed for putting a twist on garage (as a band like the Detroit Cobras did by melding it with motown - or returning it to its R&B roots in Wanda Jackson and Co.). These Athens, GA fellas give you a kind of nuanced rootsy My Morning Jacket and inject it with grittier vocals and more reverb. They follow such numbers with a kind of driving Ramones pop-punk, but slightly funked up. Clearly other songs are highly influenced by the Strokes and the latter's influences, such as Television and the Gang of Four. But again, it's grittier vocals and noisier guitars. With a heady cocktail of electro, pop, rock and soul, Goldrush once again presents some of the freshest and up-and-coming club acts around. This week the club play host to Morts aux Jeunes, as well as their latest electropop creation Comité Central who promise a musical comedy of electronic cabaret; Guido the bearded one will make an appearance, as well as his ensemble of experimental rockers Requiem with a collective 17-minute concept song which is expected to break the sound barrier; not to mention Guillaume Fedou and Pierre Wax. Such an invigorating selection is guaranteed to keep everyone on the dance floor until the wee hours. TM

Four unique brands of the fabulously offbeat music world. Luminescent and gracefully melodic, The Bewitched Hands on the Top of Our Heads offer a taste of the psychedelic in their take on folk rock. Next, make way for the mischievous new-wave and indie stylings of Kim, fresh from his latest album Don Lee Doo. UK act the Stig Noise Sound System provide a bracing new take on some old showtunes, while Bogart and the Addictives return from a recent signing with US label Branch Records to show off their latest projects. All in all, it's going to be a night of glorious folk pop. TM
