VALENTINO, THEMES ET VARIATIONS
Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy are just a few of the personalities who chose to don themselves with the creations of Valentino Garavani over the last half century. Without a doubt, this Italian fashion marvel has left an indelible mark on the style legacy of the 20th century, and continues to do so in this unique retrospective exhibition. Coming just five months after his grand farewell to Paris, ‘Valentino - Thémes et Variations' celebrates 48 years of fashion history. Charting Valentino's illustrious career from the opening of his first Salon in Rome in 1959 through his receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, the exhibition showcases some 200 of his most inspired creations. Elegant, sophisticated, modern and classic, this representative compilation of a life's work is a feast for the eyes for any fashion enthusiast. TM
Les arts décoratifs consacrent une exposition au couturier italien Valentino Garavani, dit ‘Valentino', inscrivant cette manifestation dans le cadre de la programmation des monographies organisées autour des grands couturiers contemporains. Cette premiére rétrospective Parisienne est l'occassion de retracer, á travers 200 silhouettes accessoirisées de haute couture, la carriére exceptionelle du créateur installé á Rome depuis 1959. ‘Valentino, Thémes et Variations' rend aussi hommage au couturier, qui a présenté en janvier 2008 son dernier défilé pour la maison de couture.
YVES SAINT LAURENT: UNE PASSION MAROCAINE
For this exhibition of caftans, jewellery and embroidery, Yves Saint Laurent pays tribute to Morrocco, his second homeland, where the couturier and Pierre Bergé had a home, and would go to evacuate the stress of Paris, and party in a particularly 70s way (enough said). The exhibition explores Saint-Laurent's culture muse via the traditional craft of Moroccan dress, with extravagant caftans and jewelry from the 1800s to the end of the 20th century. What's even more intriguing is that there's not even one YSL look in the exhibit, but real enthusiasts will be able to identify inspiration from the originals. MM
"Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à Marrakech pour la première fois en 1966, Yves Saint Laurent et moi nous ne savions pas que cette ville allait jouer un role aussi important dans notre vie, que nous y achèterions 3 maison don't le célèbre jardin Majorelle, ni que le Maroc allait devenir notre pays d'adoption, notre deuxième patrie. ... En effet, Yves Saint-Laureent revendique haut et fort l'influence du Maroc sur sa création. La richesse vestimentaire de ce pays ne lui a pas échappé. Il a su s'approprier les lignes de la jellaba pour créer de somptueuses robes fluides, s'inspirer du jabador, du burnous e du tarbouch masculins pour construire des silhouettes bien à lui, transformer le burnous en une cape rose, concevoir un caftan dans la totalité immaculée du haïk. Ce créateur a dérobé au Maroc ces costumes ancestraux pour en tirer la quintessence, au ciel de Marrakech ses couleurs et sa lumière pour en exalter l'harmonie. ... LACROIX CURATES
This is the year of Christian Lacroix. Everywhere we turn the theatrical prodigy is wowing us with his creations — from the 20th anniversary of his own house and a spectacular runway show, to booming capsule collections for La Redoute. Now, the fashion and textile museum has given the designer free reign to dig through their archives and select the couture pieces he finds most inspiring: some 400 gowns from the 18th century to the present day tell his private history of fashion. The pieces are organised into themes which highlight technical and graphic features, beginning with blacks and whites and moving to the kaleidoscope of colour and florals we associate with the vibrant couturier. C’est l’année Christian Lacroix. Le couturier prodige et théâtral est partout, avec ses séduisantes créations – il fête les vingt ans de sa maison, a proposé un défilé spectaculaire, et a créé une mini-collection pour La Redoute. Dernier événement en date, le Musée de la Mode et du Textile lui a donné carte blanche pour explorer leur archives et sélectionner les vêtements couture qui l’inspirent le plus : ainsi plus de 400 pièces, du 18ème siècle à nos jours, racontent l’histoire de la mode de son point de vue. L’organisation thématique met en relief les caractéristiques techniques et graphiques ; on part des noirs et des blancs pour aller vers le kaléidoscope de couleurs et d’imprimés fleuris qu’on associe avec ce vibrant créateur.
